Enchanting Islas de Gigantes: Tangke, the Hidden Lagoon

Our next stop is the hidden lagoon, popularly known as Tangke among the locals. I must confess that this is one of my favourite among the islands we’ve visited. This was the last stop of our 2-day Gigantes tour and I must say, you’ve gotta save the best for last.
It would take around 1 to 1 and half boat ride from the island resort going to the Tangke. On our way there, we came across several gigantic rock islands that looked so solid and impenetrable from the outside that even island hoppers wouldn’t notice that concealed behind those colossal façade is a mystical beauty hidden from the common sight.
Our timing was just perfect according to our guide when the sea level is just beginning to rise. During high tide, the water level escalates and more water enters a small ingress filling out the pool in the middle of these huge rock formations. High tide also facilitated our docking since the boat can only come near the rocks when the water is high. We have to cross an improvised floating bamboo bridge on top of the moving water, in order to reach the lagoon. One must do it quickly and cautiously or else you will lose your balance as swim out to the open sea instead.
Then lo and behold…(drumrolls pls!) tadaaaaaaan! The majestic hidden lagoon. Here, you will find a blue-green lagoon surrounded by magnificent limestone rock formations. I was in a complete awe. The water is so clear you can visualize the bottom of it. In fact, it was very clear that I thought it just shallow only to realize after jumping in without a floater that the pool seems bottomless. Good thing I know how to swim or else I could have drowned myself. Haha
We surely enjoyed swimming, playing around and soaking ourselves under the sun in our private pool. Haha as I looked around, I can’t help but be amused with this magnificent creation of God. You can hear the birds chirping, see small fishes swimming, and spot some monkeys going around. This is the natural habitat for many animals even to monkeys which we usually found in the zoo or in captivity.
And yes, among the islands we’ve been to, this is where we stayed the longest. Such a beautiful place that makes leaving so hard. If we could only stay a little bit it would be great but we have to leave especially that tourists started coming in boat by boat. Good thing we arrived early and had the entire lagoon for ourselves.

DeleteI was able to visit again December 2015 and the expenses were pretty much the same, even lesser, since we traveled in groups. its around 1800 for the entire tour (2 days 1 night- meals, boat fare, entrance fees, non AC accomodation) plus 400 bus fare Iloilo to Estancia roundtrip. Just prepare 2500-3000 pesos for the entire trip, i think its more than enough =) Happy travels!
